Product Update
A product update is a communication that informs users about new features, improvements, or fixes in a product, often delivered through a changelog, email, or in-app announcement.
Product updates are the outward-facing voice of a product's progress. Where a changelog records changes for completeness, a product update is framed to engage users, highlight the value of recent work, and prompt people to try what is new. The same release can be both a changelog entry and a product update written in a warmer, more promotional tone.
Product updates appear across many channels: a hosted changelog page, an in-app feed or banner, an email digest, a blog post, or a social announcement. The most effective updates lead with the benefit to the user, keep the language plain, and link to documentation or a walkthrough for anyone who wants more detail.
Publishing product updates on a consistent cadence signals momentum and keeps a product top of mind. For continuously shipping teams, batching smaller changes into a periodic update is often clearer for readers than a constant trickle of one-line entries.
